Stages of pregnancy

First trimester

Week 1-12

Need to gain only 1-4 pounds

Early pregnancy symptoms like nausea, fatigue, and breast tenderness are common.

The uterus starts expanding, but noticeable belly growth is usually minimal in this phase.

Second trimester

Week 13-26

Many women experience reduced nausea and increased energy.

Healthy weight or underweight:gain 1 pound per week Overweight:gain 1/2 pound per week.

Physical changes include a growing belly and larger breasts as the uterus expands.

Third trimester

Week 27-40

Healthy weight or underweight:gain 1 pound per week Overweight:gain 1/2 pound per week

The baby’s growth leads to increased abdominal size, which may cause backaches, heartburn, shortness of breath.

Other common symptoms include swelling of legs and feet, varicose veins, and increased blood flow and pressure
