Water and soil quality is most vital
the plant that needs the most water compare to the animal that uses the most water We could say that beef use about 106 times more water than apples. (approximately 106 pounds of apples to 1 pound of beef)

Ecosystems and Habitats

Efficiency with environment

lowering green house gases

less pollution

has open space/green land

has a variety of animals and plants that are indigenous to the region

ANIMALS: squirrels, raccons, blue jays, sparrows

PLANTS: oak trees, maple trees, dandelions

LAND USE

Repurpose/Renovate Run-Down/Abandoned Space into Green Space

r

Converting abandoned/rundown spaces and buildings into parkland or green space is sustainable because less "new" construction needs to happen. HiLine Park in New York City is a park constructed on an old railway track right along tenth avenue in the middle of one of the busiest stretches of Manhattan. It is an example of how old structures like railways, bridges, factories, warehouses, etc. are transformed into parks and open spaces for the public to use. It "lowers the blood pressure" as designer Ric Scofidio mentions in this video. Source: Time Magazine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W2Yq1zzxAc

harvest energy on roads

use energy harvested to light the panels up instead of using things to mark the road

use its energy to warm itself to melt ice and snow

less money used on salt and snow removal

transfer energy into homes

replaces telephone polls and wires

could be damage unlike the solar roads

lowers the cost of energy

clean energy which could power our cars

less pollution

can be programmed to create lanes and signs

instead of using paint

improved visibilty

can use in sports recreational parks

change the layout into a basketball court with ease

pressure sensitive

detects if branch or boulder fall on the road or an animal that's crossing

can warn drivers with LED lights on the road to tell the driver

Archetype houses

r

"Promoting Sustainable Building Practices." The Archetype Sustainable House. City of Tornoto, 2009. Web. 14 Jan. 2016.http://www.sustainablehouse.ca/home/index.dotThis is a sustainable house built in Toronto. It isrecognized to manage its resources well (by using recycled materials), indoor air quality by insulating the whole house, save water and its energy efficient.

a

Resources management

mainly use recycled material to build the house frame

use cork flooring and bamboo flooring

cork can be made from the bark of the tree without cutting it

bamboo is hard and strong material

bamboo regenerates without replanting

little pesticides or fertilizer are used

Subtopic

Indoor air quality

Insulation

Seals window and door by using spray insulation

Insulated chimneys

remove wood gases to prevent creosol

Structural Insulated Panel System

SIP is used in chimneys to prevent losing 10-15% of heat

Zoned air condition

Water Conservation

Low flow toilets

Advanced plumbing with timed control for hot water

drought tolerant native plants and species

Permeable pavement will allow more water absorption into the ground

could be used in driveways and paved areas

have a waste water treatment system that treats all the sewage water

filters the water before it comes into the house

Energy efficiency

use compact florescence bulbs

use less power and have a longer rated life

insulation

widows and doors are well insulated

heating and cooling

basement has the resistance against heat flow.

this home exceeds normal building standards by 30%

zoned air conditioning

a unit is installed which combines the heat pump and generator into a simple bundle.

controls air-conditioning, space heating, electrical power generation & hot water

used solar panels on its roof to collect energy

LEED for homes

design and construction of high-performance green homes

uses less energy, water and natural resources

creates less waste

healthier and more comfortable for household

lower energy and water bills

reduce green house gases

less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins

Safe enviroment; less/no murders, blackmail and kidnapping

Equal rights

Equality before the law
LEGAL EQUALITY

Article 7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
"All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law."

Economic Features

Good money management

doesn't waste money on useless things that doesn't benefit the community

Affordable housing

able to save money

Make money

make more resources

without pesticides and other harmful chemicals

grow livestock

doesn't use steroids or hormones

Water Sources

have to have an effective underground water system

not privatized

government controls water
there, we will know what we are feeding our community
