The shock leads to apathy, and that cultivates a internal world, finding meaning in little things, and that gets him thru the camp, and to ultimately makes him worthily of his suffering

When he choose to not leave the camp, thats when he embraced his situation. He did this so he would have a purpose and meaning in his life by helping others who are in a worse situation then him

Tress, trading food, and nature were some of the things that motivated him

His apathy and shock made him go through the motions, having nothing look forward to and using his family as motivation, also embracing his role in the camp with not having anything good insight with everything around him horrible.

All can be taken from man except his attitude in any given situation

THESIS: This statement by Nicheze means that if you have a strong enough will to succeed, then you can endure any pain or suffering that is in your way. Frankl was able to develop his insight of being able to overcome any challenge by thinking of things that were Important to him like the image of his wife’s face, and helping others who are in worse situations than him. These were things that could not be taken away by one singular person, and this is important to him because everything he owned was now gone. Once he had cultivated his own inner world, he knew that he could survive through compassion and love because that was what kept him motivated

How did Frankl develop his insight through hsi experiences in teh camp?
How did thecultivation of his internal world contribute to his insight?

MP: the cultivation of a inner world led him to block out all the negative things around him and focus on what was important to him in his previous life like his wife and how he was a doctor that helped others before the war. Frankl now is suffering with a purpose which gives him meaning, and its much easier to live in the camp. He is now worthy of his suffering because he has found love and appreciation for being at the camp

He uses cultivation of a inner world to escape the reality of the camp, and he is able to live in the camp without mentally suffering because of how strong his mindset is

Examples of cultivation of inner world

Thinking of beauty in anything around him at the camp

Being a doctor and helping the less fortunate

Thinking of his wife’s face

How did his experience with apathy contribute to his insight?

MP: His expirence with apathy contributed to his insight because it made him numb to beatings, and made him not care about what was going on around him the camp. This was a necessary stage because it made him go through the motions and feel very depressed about his current situation in the camp

Apathy is the blunting of ones emotions. Suicide, and negative thoughts occur because he is mentally weak and unable to think of anything that is motivating.

Examples of Apthy

They don’t feel pain anymore

Forced to do work they do not wanna do

Everyone is depressed

How did the inintal shock contribute to his insight?

MP: The inintal shock contributes to his insight by making feel disgusted with his surroundings, and forces him to think about anything else that is good besides what is going on around him in the camp. He is suffering without any purpose when he first arrives

When Frankl first arrives at the camp he is faced with a traumatic experience where ninety percent of the prisoners are killed right away. He is not use to seeing such gruesome things and this very scary for him. Shock also occurs when they arrive at the camp and everything around him is filthy dirty

Examples of Shock

Everyone around them is sick or dying

Always dirty and couldn’t shower

Barely had any food to eat

Beatings were regular from guards

Ninety percent of prisoners were gassed when arrived

What does Nietzsche's quote mean?
MP: The statement means if you have a strong enough will to succeed you can endure any pain or suffering that is in your way.
Since he had no belongings having job gave a meaning and purpose to continue
Cultivating his own inner world is what saved him from death at the camp
The salvation of man is though love and in love
The only way to get through a bad situation is to find love

He got meaning by thinking of the ones he cares about before the camp (his family), helping sick/wounded, and also embraced it overtime not overnight because he saw all this suffering around him and this made him feel emotional and sad for others

Nature, color, barbed wire anything he could think of was beautiful to him because of how ugly his surroundings were
Seeing sick and others around him who are in worse conditions every day makes sad but by helping them gives them purpose and makes him feel good about himself
His family is a wonder because its a mystery to him and this a question he has in the back of his head the whole time he’s at the camp, and his wife’s face motivates him

The statement means if you have a strong enough will to succeed you can endure any challenge or force that is in your way.

His will to succeed is so strong that it stops him from escaping the camp, because he feels bad for the others he would leave behind
The force is the concentration camp and mean guards
