ASSURE Model of Learning

Analyze Learners

Describe the general characteristics of the learners in the class.

What is expected of the learners?

What are the varying learning styles of the students in the class?

State Objecives

The objective should answer the question: What will the learner be able to do as a result of the instruction?

Use the A, B, C, D format to develop an objective.

Audience: Who are they? Be specific.

Behavior: What do you want them to do? This should be something measurable or observable.

Condition:Under what circumstances are you expecting the student to perform? List any special conditions here.

Degree: To what degree should the students be able to demonstrate thier mastery? This can include time limits or percentage correct.

Select Methods, Media, & Materials

Determine how the instruction will be delivered and with what resources.

Methods may include lecture, small group settings, group work.

Media should include pictures, powerpoints, video, computer, or various other multimedia.

Materials would include ANY needed for students to complete the project. These may be store bought, something made or modified.

Utilize Media & Materials

Describe in detail how you will use each of the items listed under methods, media and materials.

To ensure quality student-centered instruction the following steps should be followed:

1. Preview the material- Never use anything in class you havent thoroughly checked out.

2. Prepare the material- Make sure you have everything you need and that it all works.

3. Prepare the environment- Set up the classroom so that whatever youĂre doing will work in the space you have.

4. Prepare the learners- Give the students an overview, explain how they can take this information and use it and how they will be evaluated up front.

5. Provide the learning experience- Teaching is simply high theatre. Showmanship is part of the facilitators job. Teaching and learning should be an experience not an ordeal.

Require Learner Participation

Determine and describe how each learner will be actively involved in the learning.

Group Work

Presentations

Skits

Interactive notebooks

Games

Evaluate and Revise

Was your instruction Effective? Describe how you will determine if the objectives were met.

Student Performace: Based on your measurable objective, were students successful?

Media: Were the elements of the Media selected effective? How will you know?

Instructor Performance:How will you determine if your own facilitation of the lesson/project was effective?

Is there any component of the instruction you would change?
