Developing Better Use of Land

ISSUE

Who is affected?

Farmers

Developers

What is affected?

Our world is becoming overpopulated, which is beginning to hurt our land. Previous land worked for agriculture purposes is now being used for things like houses.

The issue also impacts our environment because when developers buy land they clear forests. This is ruining our animals habitats.

Land that is used for farming is beneficial to our environment, however developers are buying farmers land to build more houses and communities.

Benefits to Spheres

Our lithosphere will benefit from this change, there will be less amounts of houses being built where our soil get dug away and placed in a pile, it will be used for crops which helps the lithosphere.

If people begin to grow their own food in smaller gardens which uses more human labour than machine labour then our atmosphere would benefit from not as many gases being released.

Animals will continue to still have homes as less land will be used for buildings. There will still be lots of plant and crops growing so the biosphere would be positively impacted my the good news idea.

Solution

Smaller Lot Sizes

To help with the poor use of land, one way to developing the solution is to create laws on sizes of lots. If we can enforce a law that lot sizes are smaller than they won't be taking up as much land.

If we can minimize or completely take out the castle lot size it will help a lot. However, we can also make it so people need to have lots the size of a village lot or town lot.

Houses that are Taller instead of Wider

Another part of the solution is to change the way we build our houses. To build up rather than out. This will also come with the smaller lot sizes, if people want the same square feet they will build more stories.

This has already been enforced in a new subdivision in Wasaga Beach. See the difference?

Adding more gardens will also be a part of the solution for developing better land use in our communities. This is an easy way that humans will help impact our land. By adding small changes and putting in your own garden.

By making it so that people are growing their own gardens farmers and store producers wouldn't be needing to do as much work with tractors, shipping trucks, cleaning facilities. It also helps with humans mental health.

Positive Environmental Change

The government would be implicating laws to help with the sustainability. By minimizing the amount of land used for houses and such, farmers would be less likely to be cutting down trees for farmland, therefore creating a sustainable environment.

Soil
Tree planting, crop rotation, gardening, and composting are all beneficial to our soil. With this change in better land use our soil will benefit and in some ways reduce the soil contamination.

Species at Risk
One of the main reasons that we have species at risk is due to habitat loss. With this positive environment change we would hopefully be reducing the amount of species at risk. With less land being used for building the forests would not be undergoing deforestration.
