The new Face of Teen Activism
What does the author mean by digital activism? How does this form of activism differ from activism in the traditional sense?
-Online activism is displayed by the author
as a tool to fight for rights that anyone
can use. -Justin
Online activism is different than traditional activism in many ways. One way is that it allows activists to do activism without anyone knowing who they really are. -Ellia
-The author sometimes disagrees with big critics, as they call online activism "slacktivism" and then the author usually counters their arguments. -Justin
It is different than traditional activism because
it is a faceless version of activism. Anybody can
be an online activist it does not have to just be a professional activist. ~SADIE
Pros
Online activism is a good way to start standing up
for what you believe in. It is also seen all over the world.
~ Sadie
Online activism gets more views. Unlike regular activism,
people can see it from all over the world in a couple of clicks. -Ellia
Another good thing about online activism is that
you can be a random person who has suffered
from something like sexual harassment who can
stand up without being identified~SADIE
If someone is sending online threats to you, you could always block their profile(effective, but they could make another one). -Justin
What's great about "the new face of activism"is
that you don't need to be big or famous to
get noticed. -Justin
Cons
It is sometimes easier to receive threats online than
it is in real life; people in the real world can't usually get
away with threatening. -Justin
Anyone can see your posts, and this can be open to people who don't like your arguments as much... -Ellia
What you post on social media sites stays there forever; even if you delete it, it is still view-able. If you regret fighting for certain things from time to time then social network activism is not for you. -Justin
It is easier to be racist or judgmental online than IRL
because all it takes is a click of a button to hurt someone.
