Weekly 1: Course Essential Questions

1. Who am I and what motivates me?

I am April Johnson, what motivates me is the desire to help make the world a better place. I’ve seen a lot of good and bad and I’ve felt the pull to speak about it.

2. How do I view those I teach?

I wish to view those I teach as individuals that can teach me and love the experiences and view points they bring to the table.

3. What is my work as learner and teacher?

My job is to learn and be passionate about it. I need to be a listener who is willing to make mistakes and take a chance. I need to motivate and grow with those I teach.

4. What is worth teaching?

Anything that brings joy and understanding. I want to help people expand their understanding and hope in a better world, not tear it down.

5. How do I learn

I learn by trial and error, I usually don’t make a change until things seem very glum. I never give up until things give up on me.

6. Upon what foundation are U.S. public school built?

The American Dream: to make something of yourself.

7. What is the role of school in society?

I feel the central reason to send your kids to school is to teach them how to interact and find their place in society.

Weekly 3: Christ Course Essential

1. Who am I and what motivates me?

“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” - Revelations 1:8

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” -Matthew 5:17

Jesus Christ is the first born of the Father, he came to save us all so that we all have the opportunity to return to him.

7. What is the role of school in society?

“But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” -Matthew 10:6-8

It needs to be for knowledge and good.

6. Upon what foundation are U.S. public school built?

“Render​ therefore unto ​​​Cæsar​ the things which are Cæsar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.” -Matthew 22:21

Christ is concerned with the wellbeing of all people. He preached obeying the law but he also whipped people out of the temple.

5. How do I learn

“And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights... It is written...” -Matthew 4:2&4

Christ learned from angels and God himself. He searched the scriptures and prayed and fasted for the answers

4. What is worth teaching?

“And I command you that ye shall ​​​write​ these sayings after I am gone...that these sayings which ye shall write shall be kept and shall be manifested unto the ​​​Gentiles​, that through the fulness of the Gentiles, the remnant of their seed, who shall be scattered forth upon the face of the earth because of their ​​​unbelief​, may be brought in, or may be brought to a ​​​knowledge​ of me, their Redeemer.” -3 Nephi 16:4

Anything that honest, chaste, virtuous, lovely, praiseworthy, or of good report. Basically everything that is righteous

“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven...they that mourn: for they shall be comforted...the meek: for they shall inherit the earth...they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled...the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy...the pure in heart: for they shall see God...the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God...they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” -Matthew 5:3-11

2. How do I view those I teach?

“I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine...and I lay down my life for the sheep.” -John 10:14-15

He sees us as his family, his little brothers and sisters that need help.

3. What is my work as learner and teacher?

“... And if ye do always remember me ye shall have my Spirit to be with you.” -3 Nephi 18:7

“...Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” -John 8:10-11

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.” -John 21:15”

To call others to repentance, comfort them, inspire, and guide.
