Why Do We Need a Parliament

Parliament represents the interests of the people and ensures those interests are taken into account by government.

Lokh Sabha

For a party to form a government they need majority of elected MP'S

There must be 545 members in the Lokh Sabha

If you want majority of seats in the house, you need at least 272 member or more.

The Lokh Sabha's most important function is to select the executive.

The PM is the leader of the ruling party in the Lok Sabha

They represent all the people

The lokh Sabha makes the laws

Rajya Sabha

It is important for law making.

They represent all the states

A bill is required to pass through Rajya Sabha to become a law

President (NOT PRIME MINISTER)

To control guide and inform the government

Asking questions of the government is an important role of the MP's

Opposition party plays important role in the healthy functioning of a democracy.

In all matters dealing with finances, the parliament's approval is crucial
