Originally, I mistook this course for being a pseudo-history course. Now I know that their struggles are still present and it will take a lot of work to properly reconcile.

In a world where information is so readily available, it is easy to forget that learning is more than just acquiring knowledge, but about build relationships through sharing that knowledge.

Saul finds closure in passing on his hockey experiences by becoming a coach at the end of the book.
Land As Pedagogy
Kwezens finds joy in teaching her family how to get and use the syrup.
The protagonist learns how to get maple syrup from trees by watching a squirrel nibble through bark.

Relevance

This film made me question the "common opinion" on social and environmental issues and encouraged me to seek diverse perspectives before forming conclusions.
Struggles of Indigenous people trying to hunt seal.

Legislation passed without proper consultation make it very difficult for Indigenous people to participate in the global market.

What's in a name: Indian, native, aboriginal or indigenous?
I realized the power that words can have over someone's identity.
Terms like "aboriginal" have negative connotations attached to them.
The actions of the past shape the world we all live in today.

Prompted me to consider my own biases against Indigenous cultures.
We see Indigenous people in movies, juxtaposed by interviews with actual Indigenous people.

I can use their principles when I discuss sensitive topics where the language used is important.
They respect alternative beliefs and life experiences.

Motivates me to be a more mindful consumer to minimize my impact on the environment.

Killing a buffalo was a necessary sacrifice. Each part of the animal was used optimally and with respect.
