The Design Cycle

Developing a design involves a structured approach to ensure the final product meets the desired criteria. Initially, creating a design brief helps orient your ideas and can be as simple as sketches or models.

The Design Cycle

The Design Cycle

Reflecting

Explain how the solution improved
Throughout the design cycle you were allowed to make many changes before creating the solution and now you should evaluate and reflect how it improved your product.Evaluate how those changes helped create a better version from the original project you had in mind.
Explain the impact of the solution
Thinking of the inquiring in step one, decide what the your product's impact is. Think of questions such as "What did the product and solution do?" 'Did they turn to be different". Try to examine in as much detail as possible so you are able to go back if you need to change anything.
Evaluate the success of the solution
Using your testing method decide and think about the success ratio of your product. The purpose of this assignment is to tell you if your product can do what it is supposed to. If your design meets all your criteria? Were there some faults with the product? How successful of your design? Basically, carrying out the necessary experiments.
Design testing method
Think of a way to test your product and this can be done in any way you would like; the goal is to evaluate your assignment in a way that is efficient for you. The purpose of this stage is to think of possible ways to see if your project fits the criteria and / or is able to do what it is supposed to. It is important to make a design with honesty so you can gather actual data and learn if you need to improve on some steps or not.

Subtoic

Develop a design brief
Think about the orientation of your design; sketch a diagram, make a model, or anything else physical that you will find useful to use as a guide. The design brief you make does not have to have specific details! It should only be able to help you move forward.
Identify & Prioritize the Research
Start to research about what you will be creating and break down your product to exactly fit accordingly to your vision. This way you will also be able to reduce your work load and gain a finer image about your project. Focusing your project will be beneficial for you because you will find it easier to become an expert in your project. The goal is not to have a lot on your plate, but you should become an expert in what you do.
Analyze existing products
Look at all products that are already existing and use parts of them as inspiration; What do you like? What do you dislike? What idea inspires you? What can you use and what can you not use from this product in your product? The goal is simply to observe using your five senses, but be sure to not take the exact component from someone else's product and in cooperate it in your own.
Explain and Justify the need.
This step helps you question yourself; "Why should you create this design?, "What can you do different from already existing designs of your product?". Now you start gaining a rough idea about what you want to do. It does not need to be detailed or exact; however, it should give you a place to begin.

Creating the solution

Justify changes made to the design
Looking at the design you have created, think of the changes you have made and justify those changes; "Why were they necessary", "Why did you think of taking something out, or placing something back in?" This stage is helpful because you can reflect it the changes you made were good or not. It they did not turn out the way you expected, you can always go back on step and restart.
Follow the plan to create the solution
Use the plan you created previously and create your final product that should be the best design you have created when following the design cycle. It is okay not to follow your plan step-by-step. See what fits your vision so you do not loose the authenticity of the project; however, that does not mean you can change your entire plan. In this case you will have to go back a few steps.
Construct a logical plan
Create a plan that will help you create changes in your plan; make sure your plan is possible and doable according to your needs, skills and time. It will be helpful to ask questions such as what and why. Your plan needs to be logical at this point and specific.
Demonstrate technical skills
Using the feedback that you got in the previous step; improve your design by using your silks; which made the design's idea possible in the first place. By using your skills, your product will begin to become "possible".

Developing Ideas

Inquiring & Analysing

Present the chosen design
Orientate the design you created; show it to people and ask for feedback that allows you to even further develop your existing design. Feedback will help you create a finer product in order to get the best result possible. This will allow you to gain an understanding about what other may want to see or you will get an idea that is even better than your previous one.
Develop design diagrams/drawings
Create the design you envisioned in the step before; you can use create any type of diagram in this part. This will help you gain a visual about the fall to follow.
Develop a design specification
In this case, think of the design edits you made in the prior step, and then evaluate changes you want to bring to your product; therefore, creating a final design specification which exactly your needs.
Develop design ideas
Think about the design you created and try to improve it, further develop it; whether it is removing or adding something to the existing product. It should have more details than the design you created beforehand and add more ideas to it.
