Superhero

What is my superhero weakness?

need a more thorough knowledge of physiology
overscheduling myself
having a variety of interests makes it very easy for me to overbook myself — getting better but still not the best
tangents
Oooh! Something shiny!
memory
this is actually a point of shame for me, as my pre-chemo memory was razor-sharp, and now it's like Swiss cheese, making technical conversations difficult — I remember concepts but not words (this is true outside of training as well)
marketing
If I was a gifted marketer, I'd go into marketing ;)

Who are my superhero friends?

those who are supporting this wild adventure of self-employment
family
friends
husband
those from whom clients come
my oncologist
friends/family/neighbors
clients
holders of knowledge/collaborators
registered dieticians
physical therapists
doctors
other high-quality trainers
mentors

What are my other superhero powers?

easy to talk with
From people I know, I've heard, "I've never told this to anyone else" countless times.
You know about the "stranger on a train" phenomenon, when people unload secrets to random straingers? Yeah. I'm the stranger. On a train. In the grocery store. On a plane. I could have been a hair dresser.
years of successfully working with young kids gives me a unique perspective and skill set
flexible when it comes to how fast you learn or grow (or shrink?) — half a pound a week or two pounds a week — up to you
flexible when it comes to details and preferences — not a "my way or the highway" kind of gal except on certain core concepts
can break things down into bite-sized pieces — regardless of the size of your bite
can explain things through a variety of modalities to help people whose brains are different than mine still understand
relentless in finding a solution
if what we're doing isn't working or isn't sustainable, I will find another way to do it or a different thing to do
public speaking
(do require time to prepare — not good off the cuff)
have gotten good feedback
love doing it
lifelong learner
empathy
every few years, try to learn a new activity so I can remember what it's like to be completely unskilled and awkward
I have been through chemotherapy and radiation
I spent most of my life growing from chubby to obese
I'm not a life-long athlete-turned-trainer

Who will my superhero rescue?

"I hate going to the gym"
because I don't like to exercise
because my workout buddy won't go with me
because I'd rather exercise at home
because people are watching me (self-conscious)
those looking to reclaim their bodies, regardless of why
rebounding from medical challenges

having children

other illnesses

cancer

injuries

changing their sedentary lifestyle

What is my superhero language?

layman's terms
happy to use "proper" terminology upon request
want to remove some of the imbalance of power through use of common language
it's more important to me for a client to remember what something does/how it works than what it's called

What is my secret lair?

both
home away from home — comfortable
welcoming, both the first and hundredth time you walk in
not overcrowded with stuff
future
open, bright, crisp
current
intimate, safe

What niche will my superhero dominate?

the deconditioned, looking for lasting change

What does the world see?

a woman who walks the walk
a safe place to get killer results
a fresh alternative to the gym

What is my main superhero power?

Pushing hard using a soft touch instead of brute force
Starting where the client needs to start
Working the mental challenges as hard as (or harder than) the physical challenges

What is my superhero name?

The Transformer
There is more to me than meets the eye
I help others do it to themselves
I did it to myself
