The Subfields of Anthropology

Archaeology - The study of past human life through the analysis of remains. - Archaeologists use material remains of human life such as fossils and ancient artifacts.

Robert John Braidwood (1907-2003)
This subfield has many similarities with physical anthropology as they both study the physical forms of humans from different times.

Physical Anthropology - The study of human biological evolution, adaptation and variation. - This study is similar to studies such primatology, paleoanthropology, and forensic science.

Louis Leakey (1901-1972) He made significant contributions to the study of human evolution primarily in East Africa.
This subfield of anthropology has connections to other subfields such as primatology (the study of non-human primates) and paleoanthropology (the study of evolution and prehistory in humans) as it's the umbrella study that incorporates the same study as primatology and paleoanthropology.

Linguistic Anthropology - The subfield of anthropology that deals with and studies languages of human societies. - This subfield singificantly overlaps with cultural anthropology.

The use of speaking a language doesn't just fall under linguistic or cultural anthropology, but rather both as language is a form of culture and linguistics.

Cultural Anthopology -The study of cultures and societies of humans. - This study is the broadest subfield, as it deals with nearly every aspect in the human's way of life, and can overlap with every other subfield, especially linguistics.

This subfield can overlap with other subfields as it examines how cultures create and influence languages, human biologies and their pasts.
