Culturally, the indigenous peoples of the Americas are usually recognized as constituting two broad groupings, American Indians and Arctic peoples.

Even though more than 500 years have passed, the native people of the Americas are still often referred to as “Indians”

the traditional culture of honor and chivalry of the antebellum South. They argue that enslaved people were treated well and deny that their condition was a central cause of the war, contrary to statements made by Confederate leaders such as the Cornerstone Speech.

These include the loss of traditional practices and ways of living. The loss of cultural practices can lead to reduced social cohesion and society-wide mental health challenges because an individual's culture is closely linked with his/her/their sense of identity and belonging to a community

Indigenous Reclamation is a community-led initiative which promotes Nation building activities to support self-determination as well as resetting relationships with the Crown. The Joint Action Plan identifies four priority areas that will support the assertion of First Nations jurisdiction.
