Personal and Professional Journey: The Pieces that Brought me to MCAP

Family Influence

I grew up in a family of helpers. Nurses, doctors, teachers. I saw how the people I loved spent their lives trying to make the world a better place. I knew from a vey young age, no matter what I did with my life, I wanted to help those around me.

I've always been told from friends and family that I am a good listener. I think subconsciously that I became a better listener through their praise.

Career Trajectory

I currently work as a teacher. I enjoy teaching but have found more interest in the mental wellbeing of my students than their academic growth.

The MCAP program provides me with an asynchronous program that allows me to work full time while completing my studies.

Privillage

I've experienced privilege in many ways. I have always had the financial support of my family to access mental health care when it was not covered. I have had access to mental health education and care throughout my university career.

Personal Montra

I hold the belief that we are meant to try and leave the world a little bit better than when we arrived, whether thats on a macro or micro scale. Mental health support has been instrumental in making me the best person I can be. I hope to provide the same support to my clients so that they can be the best person they can be.

Cultural/Family Acceptance

Growing up in a family that was open to discussing their own mental health struggles and successes destigmatized mental health support. Many families, faiths and cultures are far different than my own. I never felt embarrassed or wrong to seek help or explore a career in the field. I didn't have that barrier that many other people face.

Skills

I am an organized person who enjoys working with people. I believe I have a calm, open and non judgemental temperament that would facilitate healthy therapeutic relationships. I am a life long learner who feels drawn to the helping profession.
