wich worsened with an increasing population

HOWEVER

The PAP members who supported the communists did not want merger as they were afraid that the Malayan government would bring them under control

They then called the people to vote if they wanted merger or not

The results were that 71% of the people voted for merger of Singapore, Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak

All these problems worried the Singaporean Government alot

Sarawak

was towed by a commitee formed by the British government to see how many people wanted merger

HOWEVER

Indonesia was against the idea of merger in the beginning

They felt strongly that they should not join Malaysia

They tried to resolve the problem but failed to reach any agreement

Indoneasian troops started to attack Sabah and Sarawak and tried to take control of these areas

Why?

They wanted to rid the Communists in Singapore
