The people decided to revolt because
John Adams was the second president of the U.S.A.
William George Frederick was the King of Britain and King of Ireland during the revolution
Patrick Henry was the founding father of the American Revolutionary war and governor.
Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes thought humans where natrually cruel, greedy, and selfish.
He thought the world should live in a "state of nature"- without laws or controls would be "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.
His ideas
Jean- Jacques Rousseau
Jean- Jacques Rousseau believed people were basically good but were corrupted by society.
He thought in an ideal society people would make the laws and would obey them willingly.
French Revolution
Napoloen Bonaparte was in the French army and leader of the coup that overthrew the Directory.
Jacque- Pierre Brissot was a member of the Legislative Assembly and the National Convention.
Charles de Calonne was the controller of fiance appionted by King Louis XVI after Jacques Necker was forced out of office in 1781.
John Locke
John Locke thought that people were basically reasonable and moral.
He believed that people had the right to life, liberty, and property.He thought the best type of government had limited power and was accepted by all citizens. Locke rejected the ideas of absolute monarchy, and believed that if government attempted to deny people their natural rights; then the people had the right to replace the government.
Baron de Montesquieu
Baron de Montesquieu believed people were not equal, he supported slavery, and thought woman could not do what men could do.
He thought that authority should be divided, and that each branch of government should serve as a check on the other branches.
