Characters of the neoclassical literature

Nicolas boileau

The most prominent of the neoclassicist theorists was the French poet and critic Nicolas Boileau (1636-1711). Poetic Art, written by this author in 1674, served as a source of inspiration for many men of letters today.

He was the author of Essay about Dramatic Poetry, Sir Alexander Pope (1688-1744), who wrote his Essay on Man and the Epistles.

Jean de la fontaine

He was a French fabulist. His stories and novels are inspired by Ariosto, Boccaccio, François Rabelais and Margarita de Navarra.

Maria antonieta

She was the wife of King Louis XVI, and extremely unpopular, surrounded by intriguing courtiers. Dedicated to gambling and other worldly pleasures, in the Trianon, a palace gifted by her husband, she invested much of the public funds. In July 1785, she was responsible for the well-known "necklace scandal", where she was asked to pay for a diamond necklace ordered by her. The Queen accused Cardinal Rohan of having implicated her, and she was innocent, after which Parliament sentenced some adventurers.

luis XVI

He was King of France (1754-1793). Between the years 1774 and 1791, he was king of France and Navarra, assuming at the age of 20, succeeding his grandfather Louis XV, and king of France from 1791 to 1792.
