Infant Curriculum Planning Chart
Week 1
Bubbles
I learned that the children love bubbles. They love to watch them float around the room and they will chase the bubbles and pop them.
IDEA: bring the children outside and blow bubbles to show the children how the wind affects the experience. Point out how high the bubbles fly, how far away they go, how fast they move, etc.
Dancing
I learned that the children love to dance. When music plays, the children will often bop their heads or shake and bounce around.
IDEA: I could play a variety of different songs that have actions with them and play them with the children. I could show them the actions and encourage the children to dance along. Some songs could include "Baby Shark", "If You're Happy and You Know it", etc.
Balls
I learned that the children are interested in playing with balls. They love to roll the balls across the room and when I pass a ball to them, they will sometimes pass the ball back to me.
IDEA: I could bring the children outside to play with the balls for a different environment. I could set up a soccer ball net and encourage the children to try and throw the ball into the net.
Week 2
Kitchen toys
I learned that the children love playing with the kitchen toys during playtime. They enjoy stacking the food items on top of each other while they play.
IDEA: I could bring in a large bowl and ask the children to make me "soup" by bringing the food toys and placing them in my bowl. As they place their items in my bowl, I will name them out loud while pointing to the item.
Animals
I learned that the children love animals. I learned that whenever we go outside on our walks in the buggy, the children will turn their heads and point to the different animals they see such as dogs, birds, ducks, etc.
IDEA: I could read a book to the children that teaches them about different animals such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do You See?" I can emphasize and point to the animal as I say the animal's name.
Music
I learned that the children love listening to music, especially when the educators sing to them. I learned that singing calms them down and makes them smile. Sometimes the children will clap their hands when we sing.
IDEA: I could implement a music and movement experience by clapping while I sing, encouraging the children to clap with me.
Week 3
Arts and Crafts
I learned that the children enjoy craft time very much. They love to explore with paint using their hand prints and by spreading paint on a canvas.
IDEA: Allow the children to experience new ways to paint, such as with sponges or painting with bubble wrap
Outside
I learned that the children love to be outside. Whenever we let the children out of the buggy and let them roam around, the children seem very excited and love to love the different elements of nature around them.
IDEA: Allow the children to explore the environment when it is raining/has just rained. Dress the children appropriately and let the children walk in the puddles. If there are worms outside, show them to the children.
Week 4
Frozen (the movie)
I learned that the children love Frozen. Whenever we play songs from Frozen, the children will appear calmer and will be very attentive to the iPad. Whenever we sing the songs to them the children will smile and laugh.
IDEA: Read a book to the children that contains the frozen characters OR create a dance with actions to a song such as "Let it Go" and encourage the children to imitate the actions.
Crawling tube
I learned that the children enjoy using the crawling tube. Whenever we set it up in our room, the children look very excited to try it and will spend the entire playtime exploring the crawling tube.
IDEA: Implementing a simple obstacle course. This can include the crawling tube as well as a few other simple obstacles to get through. For example, stepping over a small box and then throwing a ball at the end.
