2nd Battle of Bull Run(August 28th-30th, 1862) was an essential confederate battle which saw the union suffer 14,462 casualties and the confederates suffer 1,096 casualites. This gave the confederates a huge moral boost.
Battle of Shiloh(April 6th - 7th, 1862) is an essential battle in 1862 for union forces, which gives them more moral to continue the war. But the struggle comes with a massive consequence, with the Union casualties at 13,047 and Confederate Casualties at 10,699.
Battle of Antietnam/Sharpsburg(September 17th, 1862) was significant battle at the end of 1862. This battle ended in a tie with the Union casualites at 12,410 and Confederate causualities at 10,316.
1864
Siege of Petersburg(June 9th-March 25th, 1865) was a major blow to the Union's Confederates. This saw the Union approaching close to the Confederacy capital.Union casualties 42,000 and Confederacy casualties 28,000 with 25,00 desertions.
Battle of Nashville(December 15-16th, 1864) sees the Union forces deal a significant blow to the Confederate troops and get ever so close to finally beating the Confederates. Union casualties 3,061 and Confederacy casualties 6,000.
Inventions the Civil war brought
Life-saving amputations were invented during the civil war, which helped saved many lives. The medical invention was introduced by Major General D.E.S, who cut his leg above the knee after it was shattered during a battle by a cannonball. This made mortality rates in the civil war with similar injures drop to 25% compared to 75% among civilians.
Closing chest wounds were made by a civil war doctor who closed the wound with metal sutures, linen bandages, and some collodion. This created an airtight seal, which helped keep th e ling from collapsing.

1865
Battle of Appomattox Court House(April 9th, 1865) was a decisive Union victory that saw the final engagement of Confederate general Robert E. Lee and his forces surrendering. Union casualties 164 and Confederacy casualties 595.
May 9th, 1865, is the end of the Civil war. There is cheering around the nation as now it's finally back together.

Important battles of 1861
The battle of Fort Sumter happened on April 12th, 1861. This was a pivotal battle because no one at the beginning knew what was going to happen to these seceding states. This war is only a warning of what is about to come.
Battle of Bull Run took place on July 21st and ended on July 22nd. This was a significant victory for the confederates showing the union that the confederates weren't undertrained forces. The Union casualties were 2,708, while the Confederate losses were 1,982.

1863
Battle of Chancellorsville(April 30th-May 6th, 1863) was a major Confederate victory, but they suffered a considerable blow losing one of their top Generals Stone walls Jackson, due to friendly fire. Union casualties were 17,300, and Confederate casualties were 13,300.
Battle of Gettysburg(July 1st-July 3rd. 1863) was a huge battle and the civil war's deadliest battle. This was the first confederates to invade the Union. This union victory leads to the turning point of the civil war giving the union high morale. The Union casualties were at 23,055, and confederate casualties were at 28,000.
The Gettysburg Address(November 19th, 1863) was a pivotal speech in American history. This speech changes the way Americans viewed themselves and the government. This lead to high morale among the Union.
Siege of Vicksburg(May 18th-July 4th 1863) was a significant victory for the Union, which split the Confederacy into two. The siege help cement the Union circling of the Confederacy. Union casualties 4,910 and Confederate casualties 32,363.
Emancipation proclamation released on January 1st, 1863, recognized slaves as freemen that were within the rebellious states.
