Cerebral Cortex

cerebral cortex-
body's control and information proccessing center

longitudinal fissure-
divides cerebral cortex into left and right hemispheres

corpus callosum-
connects brain hemispheres and allows them to communicate

frontal lobe-
involved in planning and judgement

parietal lobe-
processes information

temporal lobe-
includes hearing areas of the brain

occipital lobe-
includes primary sight processing areas of the brain

Lower Brain

brainstem-
responsible for automatic survival functions

medulla-
controlls funtions that help you live
(heartbeat, breathing)

reticular formation-
controls wakefulness and arousal

thalamus-
sends messages to sensory recieving areas
in cortex

cerebellum-
helps conduct voluntary movements and
ballance

hypothalamus-
regulates body's maintenance activities
(eating drinking body temp) likned to
emotion

limbic system- helps regulate memory, fear, aggression,
hunger, and thirst

hippocampus-
proccesses new memories for permanant storage

amygdala-
controls emotional responses
