Conflicts
Person vs. Person
Titania vs. Oberon:
Titania and Oberon had been fighting
over a beautiful Indian boy who Oberon
wanted for as a knight and Titania just
wanted to take care and love him. By
Oberon being stubborn and wanting the
boy, he pulled a nasty prank on Titania
which would make her forget about the
boy and start loving Nick Bottom.
Hermia vs. Egeus
Hermia was unwilling to follow her fathers rules
and marry Demetrius. She wanted to love Lysander
without any consequences and was willing to fight
and flee her home in order to obtain it.
Person vs. Society
Hermia and Lysander vs. The Rules of Athens:
Both Hermia and Lysander loved each other so much
to the point where they were willing to fight for each other against the leader of their people, and Hermia was willing to die just to not be with Demetrius. Neither were willing to accept the rules of Athens, so both of them fled into the forest, away from their home where they were not accepted by law and their society.
Person vs. Nature
Characters vs. Love Flower/juice:
The flower which cupid had shot his arrow on
was what created the whole plot and problems
of Midsummer Night's Dream. It caused both
Lysander and Demetrius to love Helena, when
originally the both did not. And it caused Titania
to love Nick Bottom with the donkey head. While
Oberon and Puck just sat back and enjoyed it.
First Impressions
I had thought that the play was very confusing.
The roles of some characters didn't always make sense to me, who loved who tended to get confusing and some phrasing even with the translations didn't make sense. Even now, after reading it several times, I can see it's just a confusing play, and how everything happens at once.
Setting
Athens, Greece:
Home to all the characters and was ruled by Theseus, who was getting married to Hippolyta.
Forest of Fairies:
Home to the fairies and where majority of the play took place. Most of the 3 sets of characters had been in the forest at the same time and the only ones who knew about their presence were the fairies, Oberon and Puck.
Potential Themes
Love leads to madness:
All of Midsummer Night's Dream is about one persons love to another person. Love is what led this play into it's problems and gave the story it's conflicts.
