funding for more border fences

As a result, immigrants find new
ways to pass the border like
going through privately owned
property. This causes owners to
build fences on their properties.

2000's

Early 20th century

Mexican oil boom places
Mexico in rising debt

2001

9/11 twin towers terrorist attack.
George W. Bush increases the border
patrol from 10,000 to 20,000 and
now all citizen crossing international
borders require legal documents

2005

Over one million people are arrested
for crossing the border illegally and
around 500 die

2006

George W. Bush signs an act
that will build 700 miles of
fencing along the border

Today

2017

Donald Trump vows to build a wall
between the US and Mexico. He also
argues that there should be 5,000
more border patrol agents and
10,000 more Immigration and Customs
Enforcement officers on top of the
21,000 employed border staff that
already exists.
