Truth and Knowledge in everyday life
Correspondence
"Among the new species added to the Australian National Species List in 2023 were the Western Laughing Tree Frog, which laughs rather than croaks, an intertidal marine worm named after Sir David Attenborough, and an orb spider named after Tom Hardy’s Marvel character, Venom."
This is an Example of Correspondence, due to the fact that there was a new Marine worm discovered, named after Venom in 2023.
This lines up with Knowledge by acquaintance, because the person discovering the worm, had seen it, claimed its discovery, and was later named.
"if you ask a dog owner what dogs cannot eat, they’ll list some foods like onions, garlic, rhubarb, grapes and chocolate. (As an aside, if they say grains, don’t listen to them.) Dogs' inability to safely consume chocolate is common knowledge, but thanks to their proclivity for eating anything they can get their mouths on, many dogs are nonetheless treated for ingesting chocolate every year."
This is Correspondence because it is objectively true to our world because dogs cannot eat chocolate.
This is an example of Knowledge-That because it is declarative, and not all dogs are allergic to the same things.
Pragmatism
"The newly approved medication, Rezdiffra, targets a protein directly in the liver and reduces liver fat, inflammation, and scarring. Clinical trials found it can halt the progression of fibrosis or even reverse it. It’s intended to be used along with a healthy diet and exercise."
This is an example of Pragmatic truth because the new drug has been tested and proved to work to reduce liver fat, this testing is considered action within the world making it pragmatic.
This is an example of knowledge-that because the scientists involved had to prove what the effects would be.
"In 2009 Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt set the world record in the 100-meter sprint at 9.58 seconds."
This is a pragmatic truth because Usain bolt had to be measured to be the fastest in the world.
This is supported by Knowledge-Wh because it is a matter of who is the fastest in the world.
Coherence
"A jury in the Eric Wildman trial has found him guilty of attempted murder and possession of a loaded restricted firearm after he fired shots at Prince Edward OPP officers in 2021."
This is an example of Coherence because the Jury unanimously agrees that the man is guilty.
This is an example of Knowledge-that because Eric Wildman was declared guilty without absolute certainty, but by deducing it must be true.
"Jake Paul defeats Mike Tyson via unanimous decision in highly anticipated fight"
This is an example of Coherence because the Judges and referees unanimously agree that Jake Paul won.
This is an example of Knowledge-how because it has to do with one person over another, regarding how much better one did than the other at a skill (boxing).
