In 1993 Kim Campbell was the first Canadian prime minister ever, she served as prime minister for around 5 month. This is very big in women rights and Kim Campbell is a big part of women becoming the first woman prime minister and showing that both genders are equal and are both capable of thriving in whatever they like.
She showed a lot of women that they just have to try their best and do what's best to achieve whatever they want in life and achieve equality.``We must open the doors and we must see to it they remain open, so that others can pass through.” - Kim Campbell This quote shows that it is hard to be great as a women and that 99% of women were not able to take charge and fight for what they want to do because the narrative that women can't be prime minister but Kim Campbell changed that and said she opened the doors so other can follow in her footsteps and have equality.
The NCWC ( National Council of Women) was created by Lady Ishbel Aberdeen in 1893 and was created to endorse women's suffrage in general, but this include immigration, education, environment and media.
In 1914 the NCWC pushed to organize women suffrage at a national level, it worked; they were now called the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS). This caused them to have their voice heard and try to make a difference with women suffrage. These were big moved since they were at a national stage and also other women around Canada who had the same thoughts would be able to hear about his organization and join the movement and make a change.
In 1917 women were able to sign up for working a factory to help produce ammo and munitions (main one being bullet shells) for the soldiers in WW1, in that time women were not able to help out their families in the wars unless they were a nurse, but this was a way that it changed and women started to have more options with what they wanted to do in general and to help their country.
In 1934 the women minimum wage Commision was assembled the act fully started taking place in 1934 this act was the first time where women were able to be paid a minimum wage, and actually paid for their work and efforts. This was a big step up for women rights in Canada due to the fact that women finally were getting paid for their work
In 1909 The amendment to the criminal code criminalizing men who kidnap women/girls of any age, previously the abduction of a woman over the age of 16 was legal unless the woman was an heiress. This shows that women were not being treated like human beings and did not have rights, but this law was the start to it.
