When the First nations trappers met with the coureurs de Bois who purchased furs in exchange for goods such as wire, cloth, reading glasses, and guns. The coureurs de Bois took some of the habits of the first nations whom they interacted with.

There was a war including the French who were fighting against the British and the First nations who sided with the French.
