Texas Core Curriculum and Implementation
"Every public institution in Texas has a Core, which is designed to provide a solid foundation for your college education and to make transfers between and among Texas institutions of higher education as smooth and seamless as possible." ("Texas General Education Core Web Center ")
By the year 1999, every degree in Texas required a General Education Core Curriculum.

Purpose
The purpose of a Core Curriculum is to provide a college student with required courses that will assist them in the preperation towards a degree.
Origin-Dates
Core Curriculum was first developed in 1919 by Columbia College. Columblia Colleges first concept of a Core Curriculum became the major framework for many other universities in the united States.
Originally, the core curriculum was aimed towards the focus of Western Civilization. In the second half of the 20th century, the United States Universities began to transition to a core that focused more on electives. This was due to social activism.
