Implied contracts

According to Socrates, an implied contract exists between the Law of Athens and the people of Athens.

The people of Athens do not have the right to rebel against the Law because the Law raised, fed, and educated them, like a parent. And it is wrong to raise a hand against a parent.

According to Thoreau, an implied contract also existed between the government and the people.

However, he claimed that if a government was unjust or too slow, the people had the right to rebel civilly against the government.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s implied contract stated if the law does not protect equality, the people have the right to rise up and change unjust laws.

His thinking was along the lines of Thoreau's philosophy.
