Introduction to our classroom!
Rules and other fun stuff for Mr. Giraldi's 4/5 online classroom!

Our Morning Routine - 9:10 AM to 9:30 AM

You're expected to be online and ready to work at 9:10 AM each school morning! This means you've gone to our Google Classroom and clicked the Google Meet link at the top of the classroom by this time!

At this time we will...
- Read over the daily brainteaser
- Mr. G will model how to respond (if needed)
- Have ten minutes to work while Mr. G takes attendance;
if done early, you can read using our online libaries!
- Once the brainteaser is taken up (after ten minutes) we'll have a daily interest video or activity! Any questions or comments on it need to be typed in chat (or ask for a turn to speak) when Mr. G pauses for any class response

You are expected to...
- Have your mic muted unless it's your turn to speak
- If you want to speak, write in chat ("Question" or "Comment") and wait for Mr. G to acknowledge this, then unmute your mic
- Be attentively listening/watching your screen during each lesson

Block 1 - Language Arts (9:30 PM to 10:30 AM)

Usual Five Day Plan
Monday - Editing/Proofreading Activity
Tuesday - Parts of Speech
Wednesday - Writer's Workshop
Thursday - Text Form Work (1 of 2)
Friday - Text Form Work (2 of 2) / Raz-Kids Reading

Each day we'll aim for 20 minutes or more of reading! This can be done using our online libraries (linked on our class site) or physical books you have at home.

Block 3 - Assorted Subjects (1:50 PM to 2:30 PM

We'll always start the class together with a video call (using our classroom Google Meet code, found at the top of our Google Classroom), but will often have open 'drop in' time once we've begun work. This means you can leave the call, walk away from your computer to work elsewhere, be paired up in a call with other classmates, etc until 2:40 PM. Mr. G will always remain in the main call, so you can drop in if you need him!

Our End of Day Routine - 2:30 PM to 2:35 PM

This is the time of day where we all just check in one last time. Mr. G will stay longer if needed to answer any questions regarding our work during the day and upcoming asynchronous schoolwork, but at 2:35 PM you'll always be free to end your synchronous (that means actively online with a teacher) day!

Music (with Mr. Bieman) - 9:10 to 9:50 AM on selected days

An announcement will be posted at 9:00 AM each day this happens on our Google Classroom! This will happen twice in a five day cycle. You'll be expected to have gone to Mr. Bieman's Google Classroom and clicked on the Google Meet link at the top of the classroom by this time!

Phys. Ed/Dance (with Ms. Saxon) - 1:50 PM to 2:30 PM on selected days

On select days (when you have Phys. Ed/Dance with Ms. Saxon) you'll be with her from 1:50 PM to 2:30 PM. Our final work period will be cancelled on those days, with students returning from break and going straight to Ms. Saxon's Google Classroom. Mr. G will give you a heads up during our Morning Meeting in the morning! Students will be expected to come back to Mr. G's Google Meet at 2:30 PM in order to complete our classroom agenda. This will happen twice in a five day cycle.

Mr. G will switch over to the dismissed Grade levels video chat once done with his Grade-specific lesson, and then help any students out in that section.

Any early finishers can always use our linked websites for extra practice in Mathematics!

We aim to have one Coding block each week (out of our five weekly Mathematics block)! This will often be on the start of the week.

I'm always online during our instructional blocks! Put 'question' or 'comment' in the chat if I'm talking, and if I'm not feel free to unmute yourself and speak up!

You can reach me at my e-mail! It's mark.giraldi@peelsb.com.

You can write me on our class site! Go to the members section, click on my name and e-mail me!

Asynchronous Learning (Homework)

At the conclusion of each school day there will be additional teacher-less tasks assigned! Mr. G will briefly explain at 2:30 PM, but these activities (homework) will be for you to work on after 2:30 PM!

Activities will often be additional practice work from previously taught lessons! (Like additional Science or Math worksheets, or reflections on a book read in class!)
