when John refused to recognize the papal candidate Stephen Langton in 1208 the Pope Innocent III forbade priests to celebrated religious prectices

John seized the land and revenues of the Church, but in 1209 the Pope excommunicated him

in 1212 John was forced to make peace with the Church and accept Langton as archbishopand

john asked Innocent III to resin the Magna Carta and on August 24 1215 the Pope declared Magna Carta null

the barons used Magna Carta to regulate the boundaries of the forest, investigate its officials and reforn forest law

these clauses formed the basis of the separate Forest Charter in 1217

only three of the clauses of the Magna Carta that were entered in the register of statutes in 1297 are still valid today
