Concept: Professional Actor

Defining Features:
-A man or woman
-An adult or child
-Performs in one or more dramatic works
-The dramatic work is purposed for an audience
-Receives payment/compensation for acting

Prototype:

Positive Instances: Tom Cruise, Norbert Leo Butz, Zion Austin, Millie Bobby Brown, a clown

Negative Instances: Kanye West, Cristiano Ronaldo, Steve Jobs

Correlational Features:
-In a movie
-In a TV show
-In a Broadway show

Misconceptions:

Under: Carly Rae Jepsen because she preforms for an audience she must be an actor.

Over: Anyone Famous ex. Bill Gates

Assessment:

Pre: Have the class write down 10 actors they know and 5 non actors but using celebrities.

Post: Have them write down the defining features of an actor and give some nonexamples and why in a written assignment. Focus on what makes a person an actor.

Target

Age: Secondary Education 13-18

Students are expected to know about pop culture and basic vocabulary.

Gender: Boy and Girl

There are no specific limitations of either sex to understand this concept as both males and females can be actors. (Actor is an acceptable name for both males and females, actress is not necessary but will be addressed and clarified)

Debate: People express their beliefs and opinions through against others.

Sports: Athletes express their skills and excellence through competition.
