Hydraulic
liquids
pump
fluids through a system
conductors
pathway to carry fluids
valves
keeps fluid moving at desired time/direction
pressure gauge
monitors pressure within a system
an object that is able to be squeezed into a smaller volume
Pneumatic
air
gases
pump
fluids through a system
conductors
pathway to carry fluids
valves
keep fluid moving at desired time/direction
pressure gauge
monitors pressure within a system
9.5
when liquids are under pressure, their volume decreases as well as a gas
but the decrease in the liquid is barely noticeable
this when using rigid containers
large amount of gas in a small volume and when
more gas particles are added, it creates collisions
causes the temperature to rise which makes the particles of a fluid move faster/farther apart. (fluid expands)

9.4
pressure
force per unit area
P = F/A
1 Pa = 1N/m2
atmospheric pressure
force exerted by the atmosphere
decreases the higher you ascend, because of the less air above you
water
exerts pressure
exerts more pressure than air
air
exerts pressure
![Pascal's Law](https://windprinciples.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/pascal2.png)
Pascal's Law
Blaise Pascal
French mathematician & physicist
states that a force applied to a fluid is distrubuted equally through all parts of the fluid
9.7
the circulatory system is a closed hydraulic system
fluid filled. heart and blood vessels form a sealed
compartment in the body ( closed )
valves
devices that control the movement of a fluid through a
hollow tube or pipe
prevents blood from backing up/pooling in veins
internal combustion engine
a device that provides power by burning fuel
within its cylinders
9.8
we use fluids in every day life work
for example, backhoes
use hydraulic rams
similar to syringes
hoses/fire pumps
used to make fluids leave a system with great force
( under pressure )
