The Influx of missionaries to colonies- 1800.

The are mainly two reason that led to the industrial revolution of Britain and the rest of Europe.

The need for raw materials.

The need new materials.

These two factors led to what is known today as "The Scramble of Africa" for new markets.

As time went by, this scramble led to a colonization and then turned into a large scale colonization. This colonization was led by three factors:

Army forces.

Government officials.

Army forces and government officials used force to overcome the native popolation.

Missionaries.

Missionaries on the other hand used two weapons to overcome the native population:

Education

With missionary education though, only 6% of the population received it. It was only taught to highly placed and influential individuals of the population so they could influence others.

Missionary education was highly applauded by some members while others totally criticized it. This was because of three identified factors:

The education system taught the population about "the dignity of labour".

This was a low level of education that was taught to population so that they could work at mission schools for free.

The education system was used to proselytize the population with the aim of Westernizing and Christianizing them

To complete this aim, the colonists only taught two strands of subjects to achieve the aim.

Christian Doctrine.

Literacy and numeracy.

These two strands of subjects would make it easier to convert and proselytize the native population. This would be done through being able to read the scriptures and the hymm books.

The education system was also a sexist education system.

Men were educated more due to the influence they had in the society.

Womens education was not prioritized on the colonial agenda due to their lack of influence.
