Unilateral

(of an action or decision) performed by or affecting only one person, group, or country involved in a particular situation, without the agreement of another or the others.
One-sided, independent
A lot of people like to be unilateral. Unilateral means to be independent, kind of.

Treaty

a formally concluded and ratified agreement between countries.
alliance, bond
The treaty was made after the war.
Treaties are made to bond two countries to an agreement.

Terrorism

the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

9/11 is an example of terrorism. Terrorism happens a lot in the world today.

Nation State

a sovereign state whose citizens or subjects are relatively homogeneous in factors such as language or common descent.

Territory, area.
Nation states are like all the 50 states in the US. Nation States keep us separated, kind of.

Diplomacy

the profession, activity, or skill of managing international relations, typically by a country's representatives abroad.
negotiation, politics
The president has to act as diplomat. Diplomacy means to get along with other countries' reps.

United Nations

intergovernmental organization established 24 October 1945, to promote international co-operation
grouping, system
The United Nations was created after one of the wars. The United Nations tries to make everything run smoothly.

Global

of or relating to the whole world; worldwide.
universal, all-around
The policy was supposed to be global.
The global environment was unique.

Isolationism

a policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other groups, especially the political affairs of other countries.
alone, laissez-faire
President Washington said that isolationism is the way to go. Isolationism means to stay out of other countries' problems.
