Indonesia's Business culture

Non-Vocal Communication

Pointing is something Indonesian do with their thumb not the index finger.
Hands on hip means the person is anger with you or you are angry with someone.
eye contact is a seance of respect toward someone who is of higher class or older. However stay away from staring because that can get awkward.
Indonesians are accustomed to having less personal space due to the crowded cities of Indonesia. standing and sitting in close proximity has a part in this lack of personal space
The use of silence is a good thing, because it is a sign of thought and contemplation.

Verbal Communication

When it comes to refusal of something Indonesians are straight forward with a simple "no". This is used for disagreements and or refusal of something. Not refusing something you do not agree with or want is sometimes seen as disrespectful
Indirect communication is common in Indonesia. Things like posture, tone of voice and expression in ways means more than what is coming out your mouth.

Special Perception

there are three things being done
Third, to eradicating financial corruption to stop unfair benefits.
Second, More and better jobs for the the unemployed to gain a larger income in order to survive.
First, social protection is being given to those in need
What this does for Indonesia is lowers their economies potential to grow and brings up risk of conflict because of the lack in equality.
The sad truth about Indonesia is the dream of it's citizens is almost out of reach because currently the rich receive more than half of the income the country makes. The is double the amount of money the middle class and poor make combined.
The people who were surveyed said they think the rich should get 30% of the countries income, leaving enough money for the poor to survive
Indonesia asked 3000 Indonesians how they would like Indonesia's income of $470 Billion USD to be divided between the income groups.

Indonesian Hofstede

Individualism: Indonesia is a collectivist society, with a low score of "14". This means Indonesia lives by having a strong framework in their society that defines everyone role in society. (E.X. Families are very much the same, one parent works, the other stays at home and raises the kids). Family is also very important, so important that if a man whats a women's hand in marriage he must first meat her family or the proposal is unable to progress into a marriage. Parents are strongly connected to their children and their children are connected to them. In Indonesian society, because of the respect of elders it a dream for every child to make their parents life much easier.
Power Distance: Indonesia has a high score of "78" for this dimension. This means Indonesia is a country where authority is key. Society depends on the hierarchy of the country, people of power are not on equal playing ground (meaning someone with higher authority is superior in accessibility). A company needs a manager that is willing to have full control of everyone in the office. Workers need to be told exactly what to do in order to be successful. Managers are to be respected and all negative views against a superior are commonly pushed under the rug.
Long Term Orientation: With a score as high as "62" Indonesia has proven that their culture is sensible and reasonable. Indonesia has taken value in things like Context and time when it comes to the countries truths. This means that they are easy to adapt in order to achieve results for the greater good.

Business Etiquette Do's and Dont's

Don't: Reach over anyone while attending a business meeting, especial an older man or women.
Do: You should be patient with business in Indonesia, in order to prove successful in the eyes of the business men and women

Don't: Us your left hand when passing or reviving anything, including food and/or Business documents. This is because the left hand is seen as unclean

Time perception

This means Indonesia is a fluid moving country when is comes to use of time. Multi tasking is something that Indonesians can master with this perseption of time
Ex. When handling business it would be acceptable to eat as well
Indonesia is mainly Polychronic.
