Branches: Checks and Balances

The structure of the U.S. government is divided into three branches: Executive, Judicial, and Legislative. The Executive branch, led by the President and Vice President, requires candidates to be at least 35 years old, natural-born citizens, and residents for seven years.

Executive:

  • Must be 35 to run and born a citizen. also must have lived her for 7 years, and lived in a state for 7 years.
  • Elected every 4 years, and is allowed to serve 10 years. and two terms
  • Vice pres only person allowed to be in 2 branches at once.
  • President bomb country or place for thirty days, but if wants to declare war, must go to legislature.

  • Legislative

    Congress: Made up of Representatives and Senators

    Legislative:

  • 2 Senators per state: 100
  • vice pres. is president of the senate. he's only there to break ties with bills.
  • Senators run every even year, in groups of 33, 34, and so on. 1/3 runs at a time so that 2/3 is always old
  • represenatives based on population: 435 reps.
  • Electoral college has 538 voters, and you must have 270 to be ellected.

  • Can declare legislative bills unconstitutional.
  • Can declare Executive's acts unconstituional.
