Filibusters in Texas
Throughout the early 19th century, several figures known as filibusters attempted to declare independence from Spain in Texas. One notable figure was Dr. James Long, who led a group from Mississippi to Nacogdoches and declared independence before being captured and executed by Spanish authorities.
