Employment

Since people suffering will not be able to perform certain jobs and tasks, they are at a loss of money and the company will have to go through the hassle of hiring a whole new person.

This disease limits the amount of physical activity one is able to do. Some jobs that require heavy lifting, endurance and, a lot of physical activity, will not be able to be done by someone suffering from atherosclerosis.

Health Care System

The medications and surgery to manage atherosclerosis are very expensive and performed daily.

Media

There is a large stigma surrounding circulatory diseases in general, they are typically seen as a cause of people not taking care of themselves and not eating right. Patients are more blamed for the diseases than sympathized.

Individual

Large risk of having a stroke and death

Not only does this disease come with painful and limiting symptoms, it can also cause other issues such as coronary, carotid and, peripheral artery disease,Heart disease, Heart failure, Heart attack(s)and,Kidney and other organ failures depending on which artery is affected.

Examples of these symptoms would be: Chest pain Muscle weakness (due to lack of circulation), Shortness of breath,Fatigue, Abdominal Pain, Numbness and, Pelvic Pains.

Patients who have to deal with this disease suffer from painful symptoms

Economy

In the US alone, circulatory diseases cost $195.6 billion, annually.

Atherosclerosis itself is not the largest strain on the economy (health care wise), however it causes many different types of artery and heart disease, heart attacks/failure, stroke and death which cost the economy extremely large sums of money

Family

It is very scary to know a loved one is suffering and can cause anxiety and symptoms of depression. This is due to the family knowing that their loved one is at a higher risk of death at any moment.

When a loved one suffers from a life threatening and altering disease, it can be very hard on the family members and it will limit the amount of stuff they used to be able to before.
