AUC community already has access to social media and mobile phone usage. Therefore there isn't much of an impact on AUC. However, in the context of Greater Cairo - mobile phone usage is currently limited, hence advancements are required.

Cairo and the AUC community are affected greatly by the advancements in mobile communications. To begin with, mobile phones played a pivotal role in the Egyptian revolution. More growth in the telecommunications market implies that more citizens will have access to social media and better able to address issues previously difficult due to boundries in communiation. 37% internet usage highlights the fact that a large proportion of Egyptian society find it near impossible to live without their 'twitter', 'instagram' or 'facebook' accounts at the touch of their fingers. For AUC students and greater Cairo - the social changes and advancements in technology would make it easier to communicate and interact. However, a rising problem is the dependence on technology for communication rather than humanly communication.
