atom structure

Atoms are composed of a nucleus containing protons and neutrons, with electrons arranged in orbitals around the nucleus. Protons, which determine the atomic number and thus the element, have a positive charge and reside in the nucleus alongside neutrons that carry no charge.

atom structure

element

An element will help with the number of electrons, protons, and neutrons that are in an atom. The atom represents the element.

atomic number

This can be determined by the number of protons located in a nucleus. This will help determine the element on the periodic table.

valence electrons

It is the outer shell electron on an atom.

matter

it is the smallest particle of matter. The atom structure is tiny

S and P orbitals.

There are many orbitals but S and P are just ones that included in the atom structure. It is used to show the electron configuration.

atom's mass

excited atom
when an atom is excited the electrons will move into higher orbitals.
Depending of the structure of the atom and the number of protons and neutrons located in the atom. This help to find the atom's mass. A proton has the weight of 1 amu while neutrons is the same.

nucleus

it is located in the center of an atom

aufbau

an atom must fill up from the lowest bottom energy to highest level of energy into the orbitals

electrons

Is located on the outer shells of an atom with a negative charge. Electrons are what helps to find the valence and electron configuration. It has almost no mass.

electron configuration

with an atom's structure, we can find the number of protons which allows us to find which element we are looking for. Then we can use this information to find out the electron configuration for an element depending on their placement.

isotopes

Protons are the same in same element isotopes. The number of neutrons in an atom determines the isotopes

orbitals

are located around the atom, this is where the electrons are located around the atom.

neutrons

are located in nucleus and have no charge

protons

protons are found in the nucleus as a positive charge
