Invertebrate
The largest Invertebrate
The largest Invertebrate is the Giant Squid. The Giant Squid can grow up to 18 m long and can weigh over 450 kg. Even it's eyes are huge- as big as basketballs.
Invertebrates are creatures without backbones. some examples are spiders, insects, sponges and worms. There are over 1 265 500 species that are invertebrates. Invertebrates live every where in the world you just don't realize!!! (If you see a bug they are invertebrate). Instead of backbones they usually have an exoskeleton as well.
Did you know?: Insects make up 3 quarters of all invertebrates?
Vertebrate
Vertebrates are animals with backbones. Fish, Birds, Reptiles, amphibians and mammals are some types of vertebrates.
Species
There are 1 300 000 known species of animal, 400 000 known species of plant, 75 000 known species of fungus, 28 000 known species of protist and 3000 known species of monera. So the total of all the species on Earth is... 1 806 000 (estimate). We do know that there are more than 1 500 000 different types of creatures. We are discovering more every second !!!! WOW !!!!
(Species are different types of creatures)
Classes
Classes are the ways to categorize the different types of species.
Kingdoms
There are 5 kingdoms that classify the
types of kindoms.
Moneran Kingdom
The Moneran kingdom is made up of single-celled organisms. Monerans do not have Nucleus, (a dark mass at the center of some creatures). There are 3000 diffrent species of Monerans.
Protist kindom
The Protist Kingdom is made up of single-celled organisms just like in the Moneran Kingdom, but the one difference is that in the Protist Kingdom organisms have a nucleus. A nucleus is a dark mass that is in the middle of a creature. 28 000 known species of protists that are known.
Fungus Kingdoms
The Fungus Kingdom is made up of species called Fungi. Fungi are multi-cellular organisms that eat by absorbing food from other organisms (Alive or Dead). Some examples are Mushrooms, Moulds and Mildew e.t.c. There are over 75 000 different known species of Fungus
Plant Kingdom
Just like Fungi plants are multi-cellular
organisms. The Big difference is that inside plants there is a green substance called chlorophyll in them. This substance helps them make there own food, that is what sets these creatures apart. There are 400 000 known species of plants
Animal Kindom
Animals are multi-cellular organisms that actually cannot make food with there own cells. They have to mover around and eat. There are 1 300 000 different known species of animals and we are discovering more every second.
