Parenting Choices & The Developmental Influence on Children

Relationships

Playing with a child strengthens your relationship and encourages the child to explore, observe, experiment and solve problems

Loving, stable and responsive relationships are fundamental to a child’s development

Expectations

high expectations negatively impacts their personalities and self worth

placing high expectations gives them no control

health

Depending geographically if your parents dont have good heath care and benefits it could affect the child health and ability to see the doctor

Stay At Home Parents

Always having someone home to take care of you, cook meals, help you with homework

Would't know what it would be like to be in daycare, more privileged because they can go right home and be with thier family

Divorce

Exposure to high levels of parental conflict is predictive of poor emotional adjustment by the child regardless of the parents' marital status

working parents

always busy, setting example for children, should make time to spend with their child because they could feel lonely or not loved enough

could get put into daycare and have more social interaction, and learn how to behave properly

Education

physical, social, emotional and cognitive development

success in school builds confidence, socially meet your friends, preparing for reading and writing

Religion

Teaches them moral codes & values

Very social, but if focused on religion could not be as academically along

build relationships with places your parents trust, making new relationships being involved in the community will make you feel more involved in life

Depending on the parenting style your expectations will be different making the child get away with alot more and not be punished or the other way areound, the way the parent treats thier kid and teaches them about life will affect the way they make relationships in the real world and how close they are with thier own parent

proper punishment is treating them a lesson, how not to behave

Physical punishment is linked to insecure attachment and poorer relationships between children and parents

Siblings

relationships with them early on will help later on

affect you throughout your whole life
