Your Result

Your result may change after some time. You can take the test again in the future.
Count how many "No" answers you gave to the statements/items above:

6–7 points:

Be especially careful and avoid exposing yourself to demonstrations and techniques labelled as "processing".

In our opinion, it is unlikely that you can currently tolerate the emotional demands of DEW Training.

If you wish to start your training now, it is recommended that you proceed with the utmost care and do not apply the methods on other people without individual supervision.

"Deep Emotional Self-Care" might be a better fit for you at the moment.

4–5 points:

You should be particularly careful when exposing yourself to the demonstrations and techniques that are labelled as "processing".

In our opinion, it is not very likely that you can currently tolerate the emotional demands of DEW Training.

However, DEW can still be an option for you as long as you ensure you have access to supervision and/or therapy in case you need it.

0–3 points:

Please remember to be careful and slow as you progress through the exercises.

In our opinion, it is very likely that you can currently tolerate the emotional demands of DEW Training.

The possibility remains that you will need/want individual supervision or therapy during or after the course.

Disclaimer:
Please bear in mind that whatever your result in this test, you may want and/or need additional resources (time, supervision, counselling, including their costs) - which are not part of the training itself.
The following recommendation is intended to help you decide whether to enrol in the DEEP EMOTIONAL WORK training (or any part of it).

We do not guarantee any results or experiences. The decision to enrol is yours and yours alone.

Items

(7)
Listening to or reading detailed narratives of helplessness, suffering, experiences of violence (including sexual violence) can upset me for a short while ...

... but ...

... does not cause sudden images or emotions that could be related to my own distressing/traumatizing experiences.

If you do experience this, then you answer is "No."

and !

... does not trigger distressing emotions which remain for hours or even days, and are difficult to ignore

If you do get such distressing emotions, then you answer is "No."

The last one is a bit more complicated, so please bear with us:

You can have up to two points in this question (0, 1, or 2).

(6)

neither (a) nor (b) apply to you

either part (a) or (b) or both (a+b) apply to you

I can spontaneously name ...

(b)

... at least one place (real or imagined, from the past or present) where I feel/felt calm, at peace or safe.

and/or

(a)

... at least one person/animal/"something" with which I had/have a special relationship including feeling accepted and/or feeling safe (or something similar, positive and profound/strong)

(5)
Over the last 6 months I have experienced 6 or fewer nightmares (dreams with intense distressing emotions).

This means:

you experience more than 6 nightmares during the last 6 months

"No"

you experience 6 or fewer nightmares during the last 6 months

>>

"Yes"

If you still feel that the nightmares you are having impact your quality of life considerably, are very intense when they do happen, and/or have a repetitive theme, you might still count this as a "No" answer at your own discretion. (This is not an absolute science!)

(4)
I have processed the highly distressing or traumatizing events in my life with a therapist (counsellor) specialized in psychological trauma care.

IF:

If your response is: "I am not aware of any such events." - then this counts as a "No" answer.

>> add +1 point

(3)
I am either currently in psychotherapy or have been in psychotherapy in the past.
(2)
I attend regular psychological supervision, either as a part of my job or otherwise.
(1)

Introduction

Total Privacy:
We will not ask for your result for enrolling in the self-learn course.
As you do not share any information to make the test, your result is private and only you will know it.
What does this tell me?
The basis of this test is purely empirical (based on experience) and was designed by Matthias Behrends.

You must not draw any conclusions from this test about your mental health or other aspects of your personality.

This is not scientifically evaluated and has no diagnostic purpose whatsoever.

This test is our way to provide you with some general guidance on whether learning DEW (or any part of it) is right for you at this point in time.
Who should take it?
We are not excluding anyone, but it is a useful self-assessment tool that may help you in your decision making.
We recommend taking the test and considering the result...

... before enrolling in DEW Training (or any part of it).

Why a test?
Both learning and performing DEEP EMOTIONAL WORK (DEW) with others is emotionally demanding.
