Frida Kahlo's life took a dramatic turn after a severe bus accident on September 17, 1925, which left her with multiple serious injuries, including spine and pelvis fractures. During her prolonged recovery, she began to paint, starting with self-portraits, which later became a significant part of her artistic legacy.

WHY I ADMIT?

At the first point, Her life was a symbol in Latino América. All her creations show us the pain of her life and she could transfer that feellings of her paintings. That’s something very complicated and very apreciated for me.
At the second point, I really think that the way she lived her life was emblematic. She represents a stronger woman even every event suffering in her life show me how to be a stronger woman and grow up and to face any obstacle.

HER LAST YEARS

Deeply depressed, Frida was hospitalized in April 1954 because of a suicide attempt.
Her final public appearance was a demonstration against the U.S.-Backed overthrow of president Jacobo Arbenz of Guatemala on July 2.

About a week after her 47th birthday, Kahlo died on July 13 at her beloved blue house. She exhibited her paintings in Paris and Mexico before her death in 1954.

HER MARRIAGE

Kahlo, later became politically active and married fellow communist artist Diego Rivera in 1929.
In 1930, they lived in San Francisco, California, where Kahlo showed her painting Frieda and Diego Rivera at the Sixth Annual Exhibition of the San Francisco Society of Women Artists.

In 1930, Frida became pregnant for the first time. However, due to the abnormal position of the fetus and the aftermath of the 1925 accident, the three-month pregnancy had to be interrupted

ACCIDENT AND START OF YOUR ART

On September 17, 1925, Kahlo and Alejandro Gómez were traveling together on a bus when the vehicle collided with a streetcar. As a result of the collision, Kahlo was impaled by a steel handrail, which went into her hip and came out the other side. She suffered several serious injuries as a result, including fractures in her spine dorsal and pelvis.
She began painting during her recovery and finished her first self-portrait the following year. During the time she couldn’t walk , she painting a lot of self-portraits and her family.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist, is admired as a feminist icon. Her real name was Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón.
Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, in Coyocoán, Mexico.

Her father Wilhelm, was a German photographer who had immigrated to Mexico where he met and married her mother Matilde. She had two older sisters, Matilde and Adriana, and her younger sister, Cristina.
