The innocent character of this story is the human who's getting abducted in his sleep. There seems to be no apparent reason of why he's getting abducted and has no clue on what's happening to him.

The underdog of this story was the young alien who was attempting pass the given task. I believe he is underestimated for his abilities due to the fact that he underwent various failed attempts to abduct the human.
