Rome had seven kings. Three Sabine kings and three Etruscan Kings.

The Romans then established the Republic

Only patricians could hold magistracies, the plebeyans, who were excluded, to begin demanding a role in government.

Social instability increased the influence of the army and its generals, giving way to a period of civil wars

Their Mediterranean conquest brought the Romans money, slaves and land. However, this caused instability in the Republic.

The wealthy received the most benefits, began demanding more land and greater political involvement.
