INTRO TO GEOMETRIC SHAPES:
SIDE MEASUREMENTS-GRADE 2
QUADRILATERALS:
Has four-sides, it is 2-dimensional (a flat shape), closed (the lines join up), and has straight sides.
PARALLELOGRAM:
A shape where opposite sides are parallel.
Also:
• opposite sides are equal in length, and
• opposite angles are equal
Rhombus
rectangle
square
TRAPEZOID:
Has a pair of opposite sides that are parallel.
The sides that are parallel are called "bases". The other sides are "legs" (which may or may not be parallel).
KITE:
A shape that has:
• has two pairs of sides.
• each pair is made of two adjacent sides (they meet) that are equal in length.
The angles are equal where the pairs meet.
The dashed lines are diagonals, which meet at a right angle. And one of the diagonals bisects (cuts equally in half) the other.
TRIANGLES:
A 3-sided polygon (a flat shape with straight sides).
Scalene:
Length of all sides are different.
Isosceles:
Length of 2 sides are equal.
Equilateral:
Length of all sides are equal.
CIRCLES:
A 2-dimensional shape made by drawing a curve that is always the same distance from the center.
Measurements of a circle
A quarter of a circle (made by two radiuses at right angles and the connecting arc)
Semicircle:
Half a circle
Oval:
An oval is any curve that looks like an egg or an ellipse.
