SAMR
Substitution
This would be achieved by teaching basic tasks like reading online books, answering questions, writing simple documents and submitting them.
Augmentation
This could be achieved by having students developing shared documents. They could work together with a collaborative doc to create a video, story board, Prezi, PPT, etc. together. I could also encourage staff to get a shared link to offer ongoing assessment to the students during this process.
Modification
Students could develop documents that allow peers to provide feedback / assessment as an ongoing process during development.
Redefnition
Students could create online outputs such as websites, blogs, finished publications, etc. that could be shared with larger world for viewing and feedback.
TPACK
Content Knowledge
Content can be accessed in a variety of ways for students. Sources such as databases, online primary resources, credible websites are good places to start. My role is to present these choices to students so they can find what works best for them.
Pedagogical Knowledge
Pedagogical knowledge and updated teaching practices can be reviewed via the provincial curriculum. Referencing the Core Competencies, curricular competencies, and referring to the Know-Do-Understand model can provide more informed practice.
Technology Knowledge
I think it's important to stay up to date with technology and continually add to my collection of apps, ideas for student output. VSB also has a technology mentor, it's possible to connect with them for suggestions to help with ways to incorporate technology more suitably into class. I also have a collection of TL blogs that provide up to date info. It's good to stay up to date with these in order to offer useful suggestions to teachers and students looking to present their ideas in innovative ways.
Pedagogical Content Knowledge
This can be achieved by developing ways to use technology within lessons. I think the key is to find authentic ways for students to learn a subject. In my case, as a social studies teacher, I could have them making critical judgments of historical events or "thinking like a historian." I think it's important to teach them to apply values or rate issues and then take these ideas and allow them to present their learning via suitable technology.
Technological Content Knowledge
For this, I focus on the information and try to get them used to researching credible websites - our district has a very comprehensive data base and I would highlight its features as a reliable resource option. In addition to this, I would search for other credible websites leading up to a collaborative unit to share with the teacher and students to enhance their research. I would also allow them to use Wikipedia as a short term, brainstorm tool for the start of research.
Technological Pedagogical Knowledge
This is helping teachers see the benefits of positive classroom practices that utilize technology. Ways to achieve this are activities like TPS, group work, collaboration, developing questions, and allowing them to determine their output choices to present their own learning. I would try to marry these concepts by introducing online tools that allow them to do these activities.
Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge
This is combining all of the above skills into a complete package. It's teaching students and staff 21st century learning skills - creative and critical thinking, problem solving, personalized outputs, connections and reflections, and the ability to accomplish tasks individually or with a variety of group configurations. My goal, as a TL, is to develop lessons that incorporate all of these skills into a unit or lesson.
