Canada faces significant environmental challenges, particularly due to the emerald ash borer and plastic pollution. The emerald ash borer, originally from East Asia, threatens North American ash trees by killing millions of them in Canada, which impacts air quality and poses a serious economic and environmental threat.

Geographical Issues in Canada

Mining

Mining happens through Canada but more specifically in locations like Ontario, BC, Saskatchewan and Quebec. Waste rock and mine tailing can get released into water and soil which is bad for the environment. Acidic drainage and the leaching of metals from the mine workings could also affect peoples health along with animals. BC, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec have lots of mining done there so they can have economy growth. People want jobs so mining will give all these people with jobs, if when this mining can leech and affect humans and the environment.
Mining impacts sustainability because the Acidic drainage can cause significant impacts on water quality and aquatic ecosystems. Mining shows off a bad image on the environment. People dig deep into the earth using lots of energy and water leaving a mess behind.

Emerald Ash Borer

The emerald ah borer affects lots of Canadians. But this issues location is in East Asia, including China and the Russian Far East. Most species of North american ash trees are very vulnerable to this beetle. This beetle has killed million of trees in Canada in forested and urban areas. When these trees are being eaten it starts messages that the air quality is decreasing. people will have hard times breathing without. oxygen. These beetles are in East Asia but these beetles that affect plants and trees made there way to North America in imported wood or crating material. We care because if people don't package things right then these beetles will be everywhere in Canada and will be killing all trees. All people want to take care of other, that's the way it is.
Emerald ash borer impacts sustainability because its a serious economic and environmental threat to both urban and forested areas across North America.

Flash Flooding

Flash flooding happen in Canada it is one of the most popular floods. But its the worst in Atlantic Canada. These floods wash everything away in the area dinging habitats for animals, plants, good for animals, properties and homes. A flash flood is a rapid flooding of low lying areas. washes, rivers, dry lakes and depressions. Flash floods happen in Atlantic Canada because lots of changes in the height of rivers, lakes and oceans. Canada flash floods are the most common natural hazard in the country and among the costliest. We care becasue this is ruining of environmerntal reputation and is damaging all homes mostly inAtlantic Canada and all over Canada.
flash flooding impacts sustainability because rapids increase in water level in a stream as a result of heavy rains or the collapse of a natural or artificial dam.

Air pollution

Air pollution is everywhere Canada but more specifically in Quebec. Quebec is the leading source of emissions from human activity in Canada. Air pollution starts from smog to oil spills to fertilizer use. This gives people illness and affects the environment. Humans cause air pollution by things like factories, cars, chemicals, burning and fossil fuels and more. This air quality is hard for people to breath in. it will give them affections along with animals. Air pollution leaves its marks on people in throats and lungs and in there DNA. all the people with these problems were in Quebec. There air quality was not at all good to breathe in. We care because these french Canadians in Quebec are part Canada. So it is our job to take action and help these people by making plans for not as many factories and things that let off harmful emissions.
Air pollution impacts sustainability because it affects Canadians health, buildings, structures and the economy in general.

Plastic Pollution

Plastic Pollution is horrible in Canada. But more specifically worst in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. and in rivers, streams and lakes all over Canada. So much of our plastic gets thrown into grass at parks, bodies of water and in forests by lazy humans. This is affecting our environment in so many ways. Our sea animals are thinking the plastic in the water is food so they're eating it. Animals that hang around parks and open grass are dying because of poor behavior from people in Canada. Lots of Canadians are throwing plastic into water oceans and open spaces like its a free for all garbage. This is why plastic pollution is such a big problem in Canada. We care because the people not contributing in this have ot take it the hard way and have their environment ruined by all the lazy people out there.
Plastic pollution impacts sustainability because the harmful chemicals that leech into the soil from the plastics dumped in landfills, can contaminate the soil and ground water entering our food chain. Almost 19 million tons of plastic garbage ends up in the oceans each year.

Oil sands

Oil sand issues happen in and outof Canada. But the place that is known for their oil sands issue is Northern Alberta. Alberta's oil sands not only affect climate change, it affects our air quality from all Greenhouse gas emissions. Oil sands just got called that its the most destructive project on earth. Processing oil sands uses enough natural gas to heat 3 million homes. it ruins healthy for everyone. The tar sands are large deposits, which is extremely heavy oil and its located in Northern Alberta. So Alberta gets the most GHG pollution there because of how its located right in the middle. Thew worlds largest producer owns the oil in Alberta. We care because all the Alberta oil can make its way through out Canada and ruin everyone's lives.
Oil sands impact sustainability because all the development of emissions, biodiversity, water use and quality and diseases are impacting these people and the environment.

Hurricanes

Hurricanes mostly occur on the East Coast. there are a bunch of hurricanes all throughout Canada bu the worst is hurricane Ginny which made landfall in Canada near Nova Scotia. Hurricanes have high winds and intense rainfall which tears down trees, homes, properties, does not help agriculture and changes food and habitats for animals. Hurricanes hit Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada because hurricanes are formed in oceans. So then the hurricane travels up the coast which hits areas in the East Coast. We care because these people and animals living in the East Coast have no choice but to move to a whole new area so they don't get affected by these hurricanes. But this cost money to people, so they cant always afford the payment.
Hurricanes impact sustainabilty by wrecking tourism, drowning boats, houses getting covered in water and much more.

Forest Fires

Forest fires happen all through Canada. But 1 location where forest fires get "attracted" to is BC and Northern Alberta. Mostly humans cause forest fires but weather also forms them. These forest fires affect the ecosystem and all the trees are overcrowding in the forests which is then easier for the forest fire to start. Also BC and Northern Alberta has lots of hot and dry summers, forest fires don't mix well with dryness. Lighting=longs dry and catch on fire. We care because people live and have cottages and trailers close to these areas with lots of forests and animals habitats. These people and animal will get their homes and properties ruined by forest fires.
Forest Fires impact sustainability by Green house gases that affect everyone's health. This then leads to another issue affecting is, Climate Change!
