Formal Operational Stage

12 years old and up. Scientific reasoning and more abstract thought.

This is an example of adolescents using combinational reasoning to show the ability to think about multiple causes.

Concrete Operational Stage

7 years old to 12 years old. Use llogical operations and thinking.

This is an example of a child representing logical thinking to explain the situaion.

Preoperational Stage

2 years old to 7 years old. Using symbols and words to think.

This is an example of children demonstrating fantasy play and using representational thinking.

Sensorimotor Stage

Infant to 2 years old. Goal-directed behavior and object permanance.

This is an example of an infant demonstrating object permanance.
