Poliomyelitis, commonly known as polio, is a highly contagious and life-threatening disease caused by the polio virus. The virus typically enters the body through contact with infected feces or respiratory droplets, such as from a sneeze or cough, or by putting contaminated items into the mouth.
To prevent a Polio breakout children are given a vaccine at 2 months, 4 months, 6-18 months and 4 years.
There is no cure for Polio, but hospitals use things such as pain medications, good nutrition and physical therapy to keep patients as healthy and comfortable as possible.

How is it transmitted?
The virus enters the body through the mouth from things such us contact with infected feces, and infected sneeze or cough, or putting a contaminated item in your mouth (a baby putting a toy in their mouth)
